I am a big fan of Exfoliating cleansers because I like the feeling of a smooth skin. Gone are the days when anyone ever used the St Ives Apricot Scrub on the face as people are now more aware of what's best for their skin and I think social media may be a part of that awareness. When it comes to exfoliating cleansers, I look for products that contain ingredients that work well for exfoliating the skin which are not abrasive and drying. I have three exfoliating cleansers that are on rotation and I have enjoyed using them. They are gentle on my skin and my skin feels smooth after each use. Some of these exfoliating cleansers can be used everyday because they are gentle but it's always best to do what works for your skin.
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Exfoliator Smoothing Gel // Link // £4.99
I love the Neutrogena Hydro Boost range because the products are really hydrating on the skin as the name suggests. The Exfoliator Smoothing Gel is a gentle exfoliator which in my opinion can be used on a daily basis because it is very gentle on the skin. It contains Hyaluronic Acid which is a great hydrator for the skin and a helpful addition to an exfoliating cleanser. Neutrogena claims that this products contains naturally derived micro beads which I am hoping does not damage the environment. It also contains Glyolic Acid and Lactic Acid but it I am not sure what the exact percentages or concentrations are (judging from their position on the ingredients list I am guessing it is a small amount). I find that my skin feels very smooth whenever I use this cleanser especially around my nose which tends to feel clogged up. I don't use any beauty tool while using this cleanser as my hands are enough to massage it into my skin. Overall, I enjoy using this product and it is affordable and Neutrogena claim it is suitable for sensitive skin so it's worth a try if you have sensitive skin (always do a patch test first).
Dermalogica Daily Superfoliant*// Link // Full Size £55 // Mini £17.50
The Dermalogica Daily Superfoliant is one of my favourite Dermalogica products in my stash. Dermalogica describes the Daily Superfoliant as a highly active resurfacer which delivers smoother skin and helps fight the biochemical and environmental triggers known to accelerate skin ageing. I have to say it is an unusual form of exfoliator as it comes in a powder form which is activated into a paste once it mixes with water (or damp hands). I found it quite tricky to use initially but once you get a hang of it (after a couple of uses), it became almost second nature whenever it is time to use it. I tend to pour a small mount into the cap and onto my damp palms then mix it up into a paste and gently massage my face (you can also mix it up in a small bowl/tub to make it easier). I leave it on for a few minutes before washing off and continuing with the rest of my skincare routine. Some of its ingredients include Binchotan Charcoal (hence the dark grey colour and its power to adsorb impurities), Red Algae, Niacinamide and Tara Fruit Extract to name a few. My skin feels incredibly smooth whenever I use this product but I don't use it everyday. I tend to use it maybe once or twice a week. It is quite expensive but it lasts for such a long time and I feel the price is worth it due to how little you need for each application. The great thing is there is a mini size which retails for £17.50 and it is about 1/4th the full product size but it will last a good while too. If you have combination oily skin or your skin is exposed to a lot of impurities, I will highly recommend checking this out.
Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser //Link // £38
The Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser is my all time favourite cleanser because it has the right exfoliating cleanser texture for my skin and contains some of my favourite skincare ingredients. It contains Jojoba beads which are biodegradable and don't pose a risk to the environment as far as I know. It also contains Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid and Salicyclic Acid which are amazing acids for keeping the skin clear and blemish free. I don't think I have any other cleansers that contain all these ingredients in one tube. I apply a small amount to my wet face and massage it for a few minutes. Sometimes, I let it sit before rinsing off and other times, I wash it off but either ways my skin feels really smooth afterwards. While it is an exfoliating cleanser, it is not abrasive at all which is why I can use it on a daily basis, if I wanted to. I don't use any tools when I use this cleanser as well because it really does its job well including removing any makeup residue I may have left after my first cleanse/makeup removal. It's slightly expensive but you get such a large tube that can last at least 3-4 months so I definitely think it is worth the price. Murad usually has some discounts every now and again (as well as other stores which stock Murad products) so I save any repurchases for then.
That's pretty much my favourite exfoliating cleaners and they all do a great job. I have tried some other exfoliating cleansers but I have not enjoyed them as much as these ones mainly because they may have been too abrasive or they have not done a good job. Have you tried any of these exfoliating cleansers? Do you have other exfoliating cleansers that are worth checking out? Let me know in the comments section.
