Aveda Pramasana Range Review (The Best Scalp Treatment)

It's no secret that I love and enjoy using Aveda hair care products. All the products I have tried have been incredible and I love how wide their range is. They cater to different kinds of hair types and I think their pricing is reasonable given the quality of products. I have reviewed quite a few Aveda hair care and skincare products over here if you fancy a read. I have quite a collection of Aveda products which I will finally be reviewing on here as I have enjoyed them over the past months. I really want to talk about the Aveda Pramasana range because I have not tried any products that have worked wonders on my hair and scalp like the products in this range. Right let me jump right into my review....

Brief Overview of the Aveda Pramasana Range
The Aveda Pramasana range is a scalp care range created to take good care of the scalp because Aveda believe that beautiful hair begins at the scalp. I absolutely agree because if your scalp is not healthy, you won't have the best hair experience. The Pramasana range is made from Pure Flower and Plant Essences which are 96% naturally derived and I absolutely love that. Aveda is already known for keeping things as natural as possible even down to their packaging. Majority of Aveda products are inspired by Ayuverda and the Pramasana range is not left out. The name Pramasana is a combination of Sanskrit words- "Prama" (which means "foundation") and "Asana" (which means "position in Yoga") and together it captures the concept that a clean healthy scalp helps position your hair for great beauty. The Pramsana range consists of three products including the Pramasana Exfoliating Scalp Brush, Pramasana Purifying Scalp Cleanser* and the Pramasana Protective Scalp Concentrate*. Aveda also offers an In-Salon Scalp Facial in all their salons nationwide and it is definitely one of the few hair treatments I would love to try. The major ingredients in this range include Seaweed Extract, Lactobacillus and Tamanu Oil and together they work to keep the scalp clean, healthy and free from itching. Other ingredients include Grapefruit, Neroli and Cypress and these Pramasana products just smell like a spa in an exotic location. Aveda were so kind and sent me over two products from the Pramasana range- Pramasana Purifying Scalp Cleanser* and Pramasana Protective Scalp Concentrate*. As mentioned, I have tried these products out for a pretty long time so I am so happy to be finally sharing my thoughts.

Packaging
Don't we  just love Aveda packaging? They always look so good and very easy to use especially in the bathroom. The Pramasana range is a lovely green colour which gives my bathroom a nice botanical vibe. The Purifying Scalp Cleanser comes with a twister open/close cap and nozzle which is  ideal because it lets out the product directly onto my scalp. I love this packaging because it is so easy to use and even if my eyes are closed, I can still use it safely in the bathroom. The Purifying Scalp Concentrate has to be my current favourite hair care product packaging. I don't know about you but I have never owned or used a hair care product that looks like a skincare serum complete with a dropper/pipette. I absolutely love it and it allows for the easiest application ever (I have to keep my eyes open to apply though).

Pramasana Purifying Scalp Cleanser* // £23.50 // Link
I was really excited to try a dedicated scalp treatment especially from Aveda because I know their products do what they promise. My hair is dry and usually dehydrated so I try to drink a lot of water but I think it is this way because of my curl pattern. It is not uncommon to have dry/dehydrated hair if you have curly hair. It's just because water, oil and nutrients find it more difficult to travel through curls and coils as opposed to straight hair. In addition to my dry/dehydrated hair, I am also blessed with very dry scalp. Yes, I know!! The best kind of combination-NOT!!! I always have to give extra care to my scalp but I have never really found any product that worked exclusively well for my scalp. I hope you can imagine how delighted I was to try out the Pramasana Purifying Scalp Cleanser. Aveda describes it as a 98% naturally derived cleanser which deeply but gently purifies the scalp with plant derived cleansing agents. That's not all though; it contains Wintergreen derived Salicylic Acid which exfoliates leaving the scalp invigorated and refreshed. It is designed to be used before shampooing and on wet hair. I always put my hair into four sections before washing it otherwise it can get all tangled if I don't do this.

The Pramasana Purifying Scalp Cleanser is more like a pre-shampoo (or pre-poo as my natural Afro hair babes would call it). It is important to wet your hair before use to allow it work better at cleansing. I start off with wet hair and also ensure my scalp gets a good amount of water as well. Next, I open the nozzle of the product and apply directly to my scalp.  I give my scalp a nice massage around each section of hair.  I usually make smaller sections within one section so my scalp gets a good amount of product. I don't rinse off immediately instead I let it sit for a while and then work on other sections of my hair. Once I am done, I rinse off and continue the rest of my hair care routine- shampoo, conditioner and treatment. Before switching to the Pramasana range, I felt my scalp was not very clean despite washing with regular shampoos. Other times, my hair may feels too clean leaving my scalp stripped of any little natural oils. I don't have such issues any more because the Pramasana Purifying Cleanser has made massive improvements. My scalp feels clean yet not stripped. It just feels good and the dryness I suffered from has reduced drastically. My scalp no longer gets itchy even after washing which previously happened with some shampoos and conditioners. Now I realise it's because  my scalp was stripped of its natural oils. I cannot recommend the Pramasana range enough. If you have ever had issues with your scalp including itchiness, dryness, dehydration and not feeling clean, look no further because the Pramasana Purifying Cleanser has you covered. Honestly, it is the absolute business!!

Pramasana Protective Scalp Concentrate* //£35 // Link
As if the Pramasana Purifying Cleanser was not enough, Aveda decided to put a crown to it all by developing the Pramasana Protective Scalp Concentrate. It is designed to balance and protect the scalp especially after using the Pramasana Purifying Cleanser. Aveda describes it as a 96% naturally derived lightweight serum which penetrates the scalp surface layers to nourish and help preserve the scalp's natural protective barrier. In addition, it helps protect the scalp from pollution and free radicals. To be honest, I have never really given too much thought to nourishing my scalp with any product which is terrible thinking about it because I use various serums on my skin. The scalp is obviously an extension of the skin but it's just covered with hair so people don't usually get to notice it. Since I have started using the Pramasana range, I am now paying more attention to my scalp.

First off, you all know I am obsessed with anything that comes with a pipette. It just looks and feels so lovely and I feel so prim and proper using it on my scalp. I already mentioned that the entire range smells like a spa and I think the Scalp Concentrate smells even more beautiful (I guess because it is a concentrate). It is recommended to use this on slightly damp hair so you could use this in the shower. I prefer to use it in front of a mirror so I can see what I am doing. As usual, I put my hair into four sections and start off around the perimeters of those sections. The pipette is so handy because I drop the product exactly where I need it and give it a little massage. There is no need to rinse it out and I can feel it getting absorbed into my scalp. It feels so satisfying and my hair smells so good afterwards. I am so delighted to let you know that the health of my scalp has massively improved with this entire range. The scaling I used to experience due to my dry/dehydrated scalp is nowhere to be seen. I am just in love with this range and I cannot recommend it enough.

Alternatively. you can check out Aveda products in other retailers such as Fabled, John Lewis, Debenhams, etc.

Final Thoughts
What can I say? I am seriously impressed with the Pramasana range and it really surpassed all my expectations. I don't ever consider my hair care routine complete if I don't use the Pramasana range and you can be sure that I will instantly repurchase when I run out. The good thing is that the size of the products are very reasonable so it has lasted me a pretty long time. I would say it is totally worth the price. That's it from me now. Have you tried the Aveda Pramasana range?

Murad Skincare Review

If you follow me on Instagram, you would have seen me feature Murad Skincare products on there because I have been enjoying using them all. I was very kindly sent a generous amount of skincare products to try out. Now that I have used them for a pretty long time and even traveled with them a couple of times, I think it is time to share my full review.

Brief Overview of Murad
Murad Skincare was founded by Dr Howard Murad who is a world renowned Dermatologist with a wealth of expertise and knowledge in his field. All Murad products are backed up with over 30 years legacy of research and clinical testing and that's exactly why they are so effective. They do what they say on the bottle and have surpassed my expectation. As a pharmacist myself, I was so delighted to read that he is also a trained pharmacist and I feel so proud of him (although I don't personally know him). You can read all about him over here. With the Murad products, there is something for everyone, every skin type and every skin concern and I love that they also have a mini consultation quiz on the website to help you narrow down your choices.

Packaging
I have to say that the Murad Skincare packaging is very modern and I absolutely love it. Without doubt, you can tell that a lot of thought went into the development of the packaging. They have infused modern technology with practicality to ensure that the products are amazing. I have noticed that they have ensure that there is very little room for cross contamination with their packaging because there is minimal contact with your fingers and the  air. I am very impressed with the packaging. The Invisiblur Shield Primer has an airless pump system which lets the product out and prevents any air from getting in. The Sunscreen has a tiny tip which prevents any cross contamination from fingers or the air and allows the right amount of product to be dispensed at each time. My favourite packaging from all the products I have tried is definitely the City Skin Overnight Detox Moisturiser which comes in a tub with a modern dispenser lid. All you need to do is hold down the lip and the exact amount of product needed for one application comes out. I love that because it prevents unnecessary waste of products.

Murad Age Reform AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser* // Link //£35
I just have to start with my favourite product from Murad and it is one that I know has quite a cult following. It is from the Age Reform range which has a purple theme. I love that each range has a different colour theme which is eye catching. I have read several raving reviews about this cleanser and now I can see why. It is an absolutely amazing cleanser and I have been using it consistently since I got it. Looking back now, I have used it every single day (at least once a day) since it arrived and this says a lot because I have other cleansers I can alternate with. However, I still find myself using it. This is mainly because it does the job. It cleanses my skin and exfoliates it at the same time which is brilliant. I have never been a fan of manual or physical exfoliators because some of them are quite abrasive. Thankfully, that's not the case with this Murad Cleanser as it does the job without aggravating the skin.

It contains Jojoba beads which are gentle yet effective at getting rid of dead and dry skin. This cleanser also contains chemical exfoliators which are known for renewing the skin's surface. These chemical exfoliators include Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid and Salicylic Acid. These are ingredients I look out for in skincare products because they work well with my skin. The Salicylic Acid is a BHA which sinks into the pores and clarifies it of any impurities thus preventing breakouts. The Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid help remove dead skin and reveals new fresh skin. I particularly love that it contains 200 ml of product which is a decent amount giving its price tag of £35 but it is totally worth it and more. I am already halfway through my tube and I believe with everyday use, this tube can safely last for at least 4 months!

Murad Intensive-C Radiance Peel* // Link // £55
I love the ideas of peels because I know they can help get rid of dead skin and hyper pigmentation in the process so I was delighted to try this product. I had actually tried a mini sample of this Peel so this was not completely my first time using it.  Murad describes the Intensive C Radiance Peel as an intensive treatment that instantly brightens the skin to reveal a more radiant complexion. It also offers smoothing, hydrating and exfoliating skin benefits. I know many people may be scared of the word "peel" but this Murad Peel is completely safe, simple and easy to use at home. From the name, you can already guess that it contains Vitamin C which is known for its skin brightening properties. The main ingredients in the Intensive-C Radiance Peel include Glycolic Acid, Antioxidants (Vitamin C) Myrtle Extract and Indian Fig among other ingredients. The first time I used it I noticed tingling which I expected but I was surprised because it was very noticeable. I have always felt that my skin is used to all sorts of AHAs, BHAs and Vitamin C so this not-so-subtle tingling feeling was new to me.

However, I was quite pleased with this tingling because it made me feel like the product was working well to show a visible difference to my skin. It definitely did not disappoint.  If you have sensitive skin, I would suggest trying a small amount (or perhaps ask for a sample) to test if you can cope with it. I use it once or twice a week, preferably at night so I can take my time and use it the recommended way. I start off with cleansing my skin and drying it before applying a decent layer all over my face (avoiding my eye area). It is recommended to leave it on for 10 minutes but I am always extra so I leave it on for 15-20 minutes (I suggest using it for 10 minutes as instructed especially if you are new to peels). I rinse off with warm water and I am ready for the rest of my skincare routine. I have to say that I still felt slight tingling after rinsing it off but it calmed down after a while. I think this tingling is mainly because it contains a high amount of Vitamin C (probably derived from lemon or a similar citrus fruit). I totally agree with Murad's claim of an instant radiant skin. The first time I used it I was very impressed with the results and it seems to get better with each use. My skin had this lovely radiant glow and my face generally looked and felt healthy. I will be using it more often now that the weather is colder because that's when my skin plays up and looks dull. I would highly recommend giving this a try if you are looking to add some oomph back to your skincare routine.

Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield SPF 30*//Link // £56
I think the Murad Invisiblur was one of the first products I tried from Murad which really impressed me. I had a deluxe sample and I used it a lot when I was on a city break. It was already on my wish list so I was super delighted when I received it in the post. Murad describes it as an anti-ageing treatment which blurs, primes, protects and moisturises the skin with an invisible sunscreen to reveal a flawless complexion.  I think most people assume it is just a regular primer so they can't understand why it is so expensive but it definitely offers so much more than a primer. First off, it contains sunscreen with SPF 30 which is pretty good and it is invisible so no white cast, blue cast or flashbacks. It also primes and blurs the skin leaving it demi-matte and a reduced appearance of enlarged pores.

For me, I was mainly impressed by its blurring and priming properties because my skin always looks fabulous whenever I use this product under my makeup. My makeup also lasts longer with it which is great.  It contains a unique formula consisting of Shitake Mushroom, Mucor Miehei, Barley, Sunflower, Cucumber extracts to mention a few. The consistency feels quite silicone-y (that slight slippery feeling) which I honestly don't mind because that appears to be the best kind of formula for my combination oily skin (plus enlarged visible pores). Without even applying my foundation, I can already see its blurring effect which I love. I am so pleased that it has sunscreen incorporated in the formula so I know if I ever forget to use sunscreen, I am covered. I am a massive fan of this primer and I absolutely love the packaging. I have traveled with it so many times and I have never had any issues with it. Love it and highly recommend it!!

Murad City Skin Overnight Detox Moisturiser* //Link // £65
This was the product that made me fall deeply for the entire Murad skincare line. I believe this is a newer launch compared to the other products. Murad describes this product as one with a breakthrough formula with super charged antioxidants which neutralises pollutants and strengthens the skin's barrier while you are asleep. I know I have already harped on about the packaging but I can't resist talking about it again. It comes in a tub with a great pump-lid design which means you don't need to dip your fingers into the tub as it comes out through the pump-lid hybrid. The main ingredients in this product include Marrubium Plant Stem Cells, Vitamin C, Jojoba, Ginger, Barley, Cucumber, etc.

It has a lovely hydrating texture that sinks right into the skin. I tend to massage it in for a little while so I can get all the benefits. I always wake up to revitalised skin whenever I use it the night before. I am currently working smack in the Central London which means I have to commute via Tubes and Trains which are the main hubs for pollution and germs. I honestly believe this City Skin Detox Moisturiser has been saving my skin in so many ways because I have not experienced any issues with my skin. I strongly believe this because I gave my skin a break from it so I can try other products and my skin went crazy so I am getting back to it. If you work in the City or any area where your skin is exposed to free radicals, pollution, germs, etc, I will highly recommend giving this a try.

Murad City Skin Age Defense Mineral Sunscreen (Broad Spectrum)* // Link // £45
Last but nowhere the least is the Murad Mineral Sunscreen also from their City Skin range. Murad describes it as a revolutionary ultra light mineral broad spectrum PA ++++ and SPF 50 Sunscreen with their innovative Environmental Protection Technology . I was mainly excited to try this sunscreen because there was a list of what it protects the skin from and they include: Blue Light (from devices), Pollution, Infrared Radiation, UVA and UVB rays. It does not get any more broad spectrum than this. I am all for the Blue Light protection because I am always using my phone especially in the evenings. It is a mineral sunscreen so its sunscreen ingredients inclue Zinc Oxide and Titanium Oxide.

I love that it is a very lightweight formula. It looks like a peach pink shade straight from the bottle but it appears clear on the skin. As a dark skinned woman, I am very concerned about sunscreens that give off either a blue case, white cast or flash back and I am happy to report that this does not give off any cast or flashbacks. It gets absorbed really quickly and does not feel greasy like some sunscreens. If you are much darker than me, I don't think it should give off any cast but it will be great if you tried out a sample in-store to be sure. I have been using this more than my other sunscreens because I like the formula and it is a a very compact size (50ml) so I can throw it easily in my bag.

Where to Purchase
Murad Skincare can be purchased directly from the Murad website where there have a bigger array of products to choose from. If you prefer seeing products before committing, you can pop into House of Fraser to check out their lovely counter in-store. Mrad Skincare products are also sold in other retailers including John Lewis, Look Fantastic, etc.

Final Thoughts
I have tried these products for a long while and I still find myself reaching for them over some of my other skincare products. My favourite products so far include the AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser, the Invisiblur Perfecting Shield and the City Skin Overnight Detox Moisturiser. That's pretty much my review. Have you tried any products from Murad Skincare?

Vichy Dermablend Makeup Review

Vichy is one of my favourite French beauty brands because their products work well especially with problematic skin. I have tonnes of reviews of Vichy on the blog and I am yet to be disappointed by any of their products. Their Dermablend range is a popular one mainly because it offers incredible coverage and does not aggravate the skin at all. If you have sensitive skin, rosacea, scarring or acne/blemish prone skin, Dermablend has something for the skin. I tried the Dermablend range back in 2015 and I really loved the coverage because it worked so well with blemish prone skin (along with my acne hyper pigmentation). I don't need to use a concealer whenever I use a Dermablend Foundation because it offers amazing coverage. The coverage from the Dermablend products can even hide tattoos, vitiligo and skin discolorations. The best part is that the Dermablend range is non-comedogenic so there's no cause to worry about clogged pores and skin issues. They recently launched a few more shades within their Dermablend foundation and revamped/relaunched products including the Dermablend SOS Concealer/Cover Stick* and the Dermablend Cover Matte Compact Powder Foundation*. I was very kindly sent some products from the Dermablend range and I am so excited to share my thoughts with you.

Packaging
Vichy Dermablend packaging is simple and practical which is always the best combination in my opinion. The foundation comes in either a black tube or a white tube. I had the black tube the last time and I do prefer it to the white tube because it gets less messy. I love the packaging of the new Covermatte compact powder foundation as it looks so classy and perfect for my makeup bag. I also love the SOS concealer packaging as it is very portable and travel friendly. The Setting Powder is also travel friendly and I love the powder puff it comes with.

Dermablend Fluid Corrective Foundation* // Link //£20 (currently on offer for £15)
I already reviewed the Dermablend Fluid Corrective Foundation here but I think my experience this time around has slightly improved. It is described as a high coverage foundation with a natural fresh feeling and I completely agree. The shade I chose is Bronze 55 however it is not a perfect match for my skin. Last time, I had shade 45(too light and beige) and shade 65 Coffee (slightly dark) and they were not the best match for my complexions. I can manipulate Bronze 55 to match my skin which is great. This can be done with either Darkening Drops (the Body Shop Drops are great) or any slightly darker foundation or powder. I am not a fan of mixing or manipulating foundations but the Dermablend is pretty special because the formula works really well for my skin. It offers a good high coverage finish to my skin but it does not feel heavy or cakey. I find that many full coverage foundations give the skin that awful cakey finish and I am so glad this does not happen with the Dermablend. I love that this foundation is buildable so you can start with a light hand and then build it up as you wish. It blends out really easily without dragging across my skin because it has a demi matte finish. This is my favourite finish and I rarely need to powder because it sets really nicely on its own. I have to say it has a pretty decent wear time and I don't need to do too much of touch ups through the day.

Vichy claim that it has a 16 hour wear time and I feel this may be true but the longest I have ever worn it would be 10 hours and it still looked amazing. If you have combination or oily skin, you would absolutely adore this foundation. If you have dry skin, I believe you would equally love it as far as you moisturise properly. There are only 11 shades at the moment which is a slight improvement to the number of shades they previously had. I believe Vichy is still working on expanding their shade range which would be amazing and I may perhaps find my perfect shade. I did see that there was a new shade 60 Amber which I am going to be picking up soon. Initially, I thought it would be too dark for me from the Press release but since Bronze 55 is slightly too light for me (and not warm enough as well), I think shade 60 Amber may be better. Despite shade 55 Bronze being slightly light for me in the foundation, it is the perfect shade for me in the Cover Matte Powder and SOS Cover Stick.

Dermablend SOS Concealer/Cover Stick* // Link //£15
I had never heard of this product prior to receiving it but I was curious about it because I am totally loving concealer these days. Vichy describes it as an exceptionally high coverage and long lasting concealer with up to 16 hour wear. It looks quite small but I love it because it is very travel friendly and makeup bag friendly. It is the size of a regular lipstick and it is one of my favourite products from the Dermablend range. It is the perfect size for concealing my under eye. The shade I have is Bronze 55 which is surprisingly a great shade for concealing my under eye. It is perfect for hiding any dark circles and highlighting the under eye area. I knew it was a cream stick concealer so I was concerned about it shifting which is my experience with many cream stick concealers. However, I was pleasantly surprised that it did not happen at all.

First off, it has the loveliest creamy texture which glides on like a dream around my under eye areas. It's the perfect size to reach all crevices of my under eye. I absolutely love it and it does not feel heavy at all on application and when it sets. Blending it out is actually one of my favourite things to do because it just sinks right in with a few wipes. It blends out easily with a variety of tools including my Real Techniques Setting Brush and Beauty Blenders. I have noticed very, very minimal creasing and I only noticed because I am always looking out for it. If you have a drier under eye area or maybe fine lines, you will notice some slightly creasing where the product sinks in. However, if you apply it lightly (better with a brush rather than straight from the bullet), you will get less creasing. It is currently one of my top concealers and I can't get enough of it. I have not tried it on my blemishes because the foundation usually covers it all but I can already tell that it will be perfect. If you only had £15 to spend on the range, I will highly recommend giving this a try.

Dermablend Cover Matte Compact Foundation* //Link //£20
I was very excited to try out this powder because I loved the design of the product.Vichy describes it as a formidable high coverage and colour corrector in a compact foundation form. I am not one to use only a powder foundation because it takes a longer time to apply (thanks to the naughty hyper pigmentation on my cheeks). I prefer using a liquid or worst case cream foundation because it is quicker and easier to work with in my own opinion. However, I love to use powders to set my foundation and for touch ups. I love the packaging and it comes with a little puff inside for quick touch ups. Of course, I rarely use the puff as I prefer to use my mini powder brush which stays in my makeup bag.

My shade is Bronze 55 which I opt for when I use other foundations that perfectly match my skin. I don't need to use it when I use the Dermablend Foundation because it has a perfect demi matte finish on its own. I have recently been using it with the Fenty Beauty Foundation and it is pure perfection. It keeps my face matte for such a long period and my T-zones rarely goes shiny.  If you are not into wearing liquid foundations especially on an everyday basis but you still want some coverage, I will highly recommend giving this a try.

Dermablend Setting Powder* // Link //£20
Again, I have briefly reviewed this product in this post here and I still feel the same way about the product. It comes in a lovely tub as it is a loose powder. I do have to say it is one of my less messy loose powders and that's why it is one of my favourites. I love that it has a powder puff (which is quite handy) and an adhesive stopper to prevent excess powder from making a mess in the tub (especially when travelling). It can be used to set your foundation, as an all over powder or to set the under eye area. I tend to use it all over my face on days when I want to remain matte for a long time or when I am using a dewy foundation. It keeps my face matte without the cakey and flat look.

I use it either under my foundation or over my foundation to ensure my face still looks put together even after a long time. For my under eyes, I pick up some product and tap off the excess before applying to prevent any powder settling under my eye. As an all over powder, I tend to go really lightly and usually tap around my T-zone areas. It is meant to be a universal shade and I have not noticed any flashbacks or ashiness with it. However, I am not sure what it would look like on very dark skin. From my experience, it has been great and long wearing.

Where to Buy
The Vichy Dermablend range can be purchased from the Vichy website and other retailers including Escentual, Boots, Feel Unique, Dermacentre, etc. Escentual currently have (at the time of publishing) an up to 1/3rd offer off all French brands including Vichy. This is an amazing time to get stocked up on the Dermablend range.

Overall Thoughts
I am happy that the Dermablend range still lives up to my expectations and even surpassed it especially with the performance of the SOS Concealer/Cover Stick. If you have any skin issues, I will highly recommend checking out Vichy Dermablend range. I am really hoping they expand their range soon as I know quite a few people who suffer from skin discolourations would love to try this range. I will be watching out for updates on new shade launches and I will keep you informed. Have you tried the Dermablend range?
