Seventeen Mega Matte Lipstick Review
Matte Lipsticks have been the rave for the past few years and I have slowly been sucked into the hype (who hasn't though?). To be honest, I have never really liked super glossy lip products but I have always liked satin or velvet Finishes. I remember one of the first matte lipsticks I tried out was an absolute disaster because it was too dry and very unforgiving on the lips. However, since then I have tried other really lovely formulas and the Seventeen Mega Matte Lipsticks formula is one I have enjoyed. I tried some Seventeen products earlier this year and I was really impressed with their quality, the shade range available and how affordable they are. When their PR reached out to me asking if I wanted to try their recently launched Mega Matte Lipsticks, I was very excited to see how they would fare compared to the others I had tried. And they did not disappoint at all.
Seventeen Mega Matte Lipsticks
Back in August, Seventeen launched their Mega Matte Lipsticks just in time for Summer with such a gorgeous range of shades suitable for all skin tones. Yes, suitable for all skin tones from pale to dark skin and for that, I am well and truly impressed especially for a drug store brand. Seventeen describe the Mega Matte Lipsticks as long lasting, high impact formulas that glide on smoothly for pout perfecting colour. I have to say I absolutely agree!!. They are 12 shades in total and I love their names. I think whoever chose the names and shades (if I may add) did a spanking job. The shades in the range include Back in the Fuchsia, Coral of the Story, I Lilac a Lot, Lava you Lot, Looking Buff, No Corals, Nude News, Orange you Gorgeous, Pinking out Loud, Rioja your World, Roses are Red and Violet Summer. There is something for everyone. I chose three shades using their very useful colour wheel which shows what shades will look most flattering on different complexions. It does not mean you can't choose whatever shade you fancy but I stuck with the Colour Wheel and chose 3 shades- Looking Buff*, Back to the Fuchsia* and Violet Summer*. I chose shades I knew I would get a lot of use from during Summer and Autumn and I think I did pretty well!!
Packaging
I just really have to commend Seventeen for revamping their entire packaging and they totally took the prize with the Mega Matte packaging, These lipsticks come in a black classy tube that is quite light weight but it does not feel cheap (really good quality). Of course, they also have a satisfying click which makes me happy but it also means my lipstick is secure in my bag (no accidents or wastage). There is nothing more annoying than opening my handbag or makeup bag to find that my lipstick's lid has come off and smeared all over my bag/makeup bag. An absolute nightmare but thankfully I don't have to worry about that with the Seventeen Mega Matte Lipsticks. The lipstick in itself has a flat shape which is different to other lipstick bullets and I really enjoy applying them. They seem to just coat my lips easily and evenly.
Texture/Formula/Pigmentation
One thing that stands out for me is the creamy texture which allows the lipstick glide on so easily. Although these lipsticks have a creamy texture, they still transform to being matte without drying out my lips. I just adore the formula and how long lasting they are on the lips even after drinking and eating. When they eventually fade (which is towards the end of the day), they don't bleed or look unflattering; they just fade nicely. If you have dry lips, I can assure you that the Mega Matte Lipsticks are way more forgiving on the lips (due to their creamy texture) compared to other matte Lipsticks I have tried. If you exfoliate your lips before hand, you will get the best results!!
Seventeen Mega Matte Lipstick in Looking Buff* // Link //£4.49
This is my most worn shade because I can wear it to work and it's perfect for everyday. I would describe it as a Rose Brown (slightly pinkish) shade which I am sure will look so flattering on many skin tones. It applies so smoothly just like the other shades. I do wear a lip liner with this just to ensure that it looks as natural as possible. If you are into MAC Twig or any rosy brown shades, you would love this affordable offering.
Seventeen Mega Matte Lipstick in Back to the Fuchsia* //Link //£4.49
I chose this shade for a nice summer shade and also a transition colour to Autumn. I would describe it as a lovely Fuchsia Pink shade and I love how flattering it looks on my skin tone. I am not sure I have many lipsticks in this shade and I guess that's why I love it. I don't wear this to work because I prefer nude or neutral shades but I whip it out during the weekend or for evenings out. I am a huge believer that a bright lipstick can totally change one's mood and this Back to the Fuchsia shade really perks up my mood! Love it!!
Seventeen Mega Matte Lipstick in Violet Summer //Link //£4.49
Last but not the least is the shade Violet Summer. I was very attracted to this shade because I love anything purple although I don't own many purple lipsticks. I was really scared of trying out purple lipsticks because I thought they would be too overwhelming. However, I once tried a purple lipstick from ILIA Beauty called Ink Pot and I realised how flattering they looked. Now I am hooked and the Violet Summer is quite similar to the ILIA Ink Pot. The Seventeen Mega Matte Lipstick in Violet Summer will be my Autumn and Winter weekend lipstick because it is so AW appropriate. I think this shade will be a favourite among deeper skin tones.
Where to Buy // Link
I am sure everyone already knows that Seventeen is owned by Boots so it is exclusively sold in Boots. You can purchase them online or in store. I believe Boots have an international site so you can purchase from them if you live outside the UK. If I find that they are sold anywhere else, I will update this link. Boots currently have a deal for 2 for £8 on selected Seventeen products and these Mega Matte Lipsticks are in the offer so it's a good time to get them. Even at full price (£4.49), I think they are such a bargain with amazing quality.
Overall Thoughts
I have really enjoyed using these Seventeen Mega Matte Lipsticks much more than I expected to and I thin Seventeen is really under rated in the drug store. They are such an amazing brand with great packaging, quality and affordable prices. I will highly recommend these Seventeen Mega Matte Lipsticks especially if you are just trying to dip your toes into the world of Matte Lipsticks. That's all for now and I hope you enjoyed this post. Have you tried the Seventeen Mega Matte Lipsticks?
